Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that this the result of complex physical and emotional factors. A person with anorexia severely limits food intake, has a misrepresented body image, refuses to maintain a normal body weight, and is terrified of gaining weight even though he/she may be underweight. Anorexia affects under 1% of the general population. Of that 1%, 90 percent of that group are females. Anorexia usually begins during puberty but some cases have been with childhood. A few cases developed during adulthood. This eating disorder is frequently found in athletes or professions that require thinness such as ballet and modeling. Anorexia had the potential of becoming a life long illness but with the right treatment it can be cured. Long-term or severe anorexia can lead to serious health problems and even death.
