Love in a midsummer night’s dream is one of the most important and powerful themes of the whole play. It represents the structure of the whole play and demonstrates how love can take many different forms throughout life. Act1 scene1 Lysander states, “ the course of true love never did run smooth”. This theme is reinforced throughout a midsummer night’s dream, that love can be destructive and a source of conflict. There is sorrow, sadness and a type of betrayal, between the lovers, Which sometimes enhances a negative theme during the play. But throughout the play, Shakespeare is creating a romantic comedy.
