Airplanes Past and Present
Airplane crashes are something everyone fears. Superstitious people are afraid to think of something to go wrong while the plane is in flight. As soon as a plane is in the air there is no telling what could happen. Some pilots take their chances and don’t check their planes before take off; but smart pilots take up to thirty minutes or more to check the planes instruments and its engine(s). Plane crashes can be prevented if the plane is checked properly and lubricated more often before flights.
The first successful airplane, named the Flyer, was invented in the year 1903 By the Wright brothers. The Flyer was a biplane with a 12-horsepower gasoline engine. On December 17,1903, Orville Wright became the first person to successfully fly an engine-driven, heavier-than-air machine. The flight took place in Kitty Hawk. Except for a few inventors, most people took little notice of the Wright bothers’ achievement. But the men continued to improve and fly their planes.
By the end of 1905, the brothers had built and flown the first fully maneuverable airplane and could fly for more than a half hour at a time. But no important officials had seen the Wrights’ plane in flights, and so the flights did not receive official recognitio
