A Reaction on the Psalms
This collection of Psalms, most considered to be authored by David, summarize the greatness of God, and what our relationship with Him should be like. Chapters 8, 19, and 23 declare the greatness of God. Chapter 104 is a song of appreciation and declaration that He is our source of joy. Lastly, Chapter 137 depicts a time when the love and shepherding of God should be sought. These selections from the book of Psalms assure us that we are worthy creations of God, and that He is always there to sustain and care for us.
Chapter eight is a song of praise to God, because He created man. David expresses his wonderment that God would bestow such a blessing, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (88) David praises the fact that despite our unworthiness, God loves us enough to have made us, and to give us dominion of the rest of His creation.
Chapter nineteen praises the greatness of God, evidenced in all of creation. Again David sings praises to God that His greatness is revealed throughout creation. “The
