Analysis of Geoffrey Chaucer's The Squire's Tale

King Cambiuskan portrayed the finest qualities that a King should: bravery, honor, trustworthiness, mercy, strength, but he still yearned for the pride that comes with military conquest. The king had two sons, an older son Algarsyf, and a younger son Cambalo. He also had a daughter Canace, who was so beautiful words could not describe her. Cambiuskan hosted very extravagant feasts. At one particular feast, which he was holding in honor of his birthday, something incredible happened. After the third course was served an armed knight on a brass horse rode up to the table. He began to speak in a very elegant manner. He said he was sent by the king of India and Arabia to deliver to Cambiuskan four gifts. The first was the brass horse, which was able to fly you anywhere you wished to go. The second was a mirror, in which if you looked you could see foreboding things such as enemies or accidents that will soon occur. Third, a ring that provides it’s wearer with both the ability to talk to and understand birds, and also have a vast knowledge on herbs, their healing powers for example. Finally, Cambiuskan was given an unsheathed sword that could penetrate any armor and would inflict a wound that would not heal unless touched
