I. Introduction:
Sport is a basic feature of any nation in the world. The achievements of athletes have enhanced the images of nations. Participation in sporting activities contributes to the health of millions of people around the world; the teamwork and fair play which are learned on the playing field provide the basis for a good society. However there are shortcomings even in Sports, one of the biggest is violence.
Violence in sport can be defined as a physical assault or physically harmful actions by a player that takes place in a sports context and that is intended to cause physical pain or injury to another player (or fan, coach, game official, etc.), where such harmful actions bear no direct relationship to the rules and associated competitive goals of the sport (Coakley, 1998).
In most of our popular spectator sports, winning depends on the use of violence or aggressive behavior. In order to score and win, athletes' bodies are routinely turned into weapons to be used against other bodies, causing pain, serious injury, and even death.
